RHYS THOMAS

storytelling in many forms

^ that me ^

I’m currently (mainly) acting senior staff writer (and sometimes editor) at Woo, I really like what Woo is. “It” is redefining and full of purpose.

EDITORIAL: Writing columns and features for magazines, online and print. Also video content (from TikTok to feature length), and editorial design.

Frequent topics: masculinity, wellness, profiles of athletes and musicians, experiential features, supplements, biohacking, modern health, digital culture, subcultures, interviews with non-celebrities about real-life issues, and welsh culture. Also crypto, blockchain and contemporary tech (“Authority on all manner of Black Mirror bullshit” according to basementapproved.com)

Clients includeVice, Time Out, The Face, The Guardian, GQ, Mr Porter, Huck, The Times, Dazed, Mundial, Highsnobiety, The Independent, The Daily Star, MEL Magazine, Red Bull, The Strategist/New York Magazine, ITV, Woo.

COMMERCIAL: Creative copywriting, thought-leadership, multi-platform editorial consultancy, photography, and social media strategy for magazines and brands with good purpose.

Clients include: Time Out, The Face, Guardian Labs, Wildfarmed, Buffalo Trace, Ardbeg Distillery, TFL, O2, booking.com, Airbnb, Samsung, Covent Garden Estate, Hayward Gallery, British Fashion Council, John Smedley, Creed, Auddy, Libertino Records, Size?.

BOOKS: Two non-fiction projects are currently in development/proposal stages, I have not decided on an agent.

I am keen to do more long-form non-fiction writing and storytelling (including video documentaries and photography), and some fiction.

PLUS, I HAVE A VERY GOOD IDEA FOR A MAGAZINE, AND I AM LOOKING FOR FUNDING TOWARD IT.

I’m also always keen to lend a hand to upcoming writers etc. by way of mentoring (however formal) just send me a dm on twitter or via email, I’ll get back asap. Why? I had to figure it all out myself (financing, networking, doing…) and I don’t want talented people having to stifle their potential due to stress. I have often been a panelist for City University’s MA Magazine Journalism and for The SPA, and enjoy those arrangements too.

There could be a very sporadic newsletter coming one day focussing on good ideas. Mine, others, whatever. I did these a while back (70% open rate, baby) and think I might have the time to just get back on it once more v soon.
